Competition Rules - General
Super 8 events will be conducted under IAAF rules, specific points of note in the rules of the competition are noted below
Competition Rules - Track
Track events will be conducted under the zero false start rule. All athletes starting before they are permitted to do so will be disqualified. The discretion of the starters, start coordinator and start referee shall be used to determine whether any subsequent athlete(s) were set off as a result of the false start.
Competition Rules - Field (Throws and Horizontal Jumps)
The following specifically identified ruling for the Super 8 competition refers to the following events;
Shot Put
Javelin
Long Jump
Competitors will be granted 4 attempts at a throw or jump. Each athlete must conduct their attempts according to normal IAAF rules.
Competition Rules - Field (Vertical Jumps)
The following specifically identified ruling for the Super 8 competition refers to the following events;
Pole Vault
High Jump
High jumpers and pole vaulters are permitted a maximum of seven attempts during the competition.
The event shall be conducted in the normal manner, with three attempts at each height permitted, three consecutive failures shall be deemed as finish as is normal under IAAF rules.
If an athlete wins the competition with a clearance, they are allowed a bonus attempt at a new personal best or record height.
Points Scoring
To determine the overall winner of the Super 8 competition from the 8 cities, a points system will be adopted.
Athlete competing for their city will get a points score which is equivalent to their finishing position within their event.
1st = 8pts
2nd = 7pts
3rd = 6pts
4th = 5pts
5th = 4pts
6th = 3pts
7th = 2pts
8th = 1pt
Any guest athletes allowed to compete will not receive points.
Points will be added together from all competing athletes, male and female to determine the city placing at the end of the competition. These standing are important when prize money if factored in.
Jokers
Each team can assign a joker for the Super 8 competition. A joker is where a team selects a specific event where their athlete competing in that event would score double points depending on their placing.
Please note that a joker selected by the team and is assigned to an event not a particular athlete.
It is also possible for the team to assign their joker to the relay, if they wish.
Only one joker is allowed per team.
