Team Manual - Introduction

24 October 2007

A message from our Chief Executive

Congratulations on your international selection for the Aviva Great Britain and Northern Ireland, (GB & NI), athletics team.  Selection for a GB & NI team is a tremendous achievement and you should feel very proud.

Clearly the commitment and dedication you have already shown to athletics has paid dividends and we hope this is the beginning of a long and successful career for you.

There are many athletes in this country who are competing at the very highest international level.  They will all remember their first international vest and the inspiration that achievement gave them to progress to greater things.  Success in athletics does not come easily.  It can be a very frustrating sport, but it can also be hugely fulfilling and satisfying.  Selection for the GB & NI athletics team proves that you have considerable talent; hopefully, it will also help you develop the necessary belief and courage to aim for the very highest levels of World and Olympic success.

The announcement that London will host the 2012 Olympic Games provides a wonderful opportunity for athletics and individual athletes such as yourself.  The Games create a new purpose and focus for sport in the country and will provide a unique motivation to you.

Congratulations again and all the very best.

Niels De Vos

Chief Executive
