Asics Liverpool 10k, 4 October

THERE was a close finish to the men’s race with Matt Barnes (Altrincham) just doing enough to win in 30:31 from Jonny Mellor (Liverpool) one second adrift in 30:32.

49th Geoff Moulden 10k, Wimbledon Park, 4 October

THE 49th edition of this race was won by Ben Moreau (Aldershot, Farnham & District) in 31:10 from Grzegorz Sobczth (Unattached) 31:18.

SEAA 10k Open Road Race incorporating SEAA Championships, Crystal Palace, 4 October

THE South of England 10k championship was won convincingly by Benedict Whitby (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) 31:27In the women’s championship, Justina Heslop (Clapham Chasers) crossed the line in 35:18.

Southend 10k, 4 October

THE home club provided the first finisher in the men’s race with Paul Whittaker (Southend) winning in 31:24. In the women’s event, Faye Fullerton (Havering Mayesbrook) won in a time of 34:50.

British and Irish Fell Running Championships, Sedbergh, Cumbria, 4 October

THE medals were spread amongst the nations as Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales took individual golds and England and Scotland won gold medals in the team competitions. England claimed the overall trophy back from Scotland who won it in 2008.

Under 18 boys: 4 miles (1315 feet)

ROBBIE SIMPSON looked strong and controlled as he impressed everyone by finishing ahead of close rival and team mate time Alex Hendry with Jamie Stevenson finishing in third to give Scotland a clean sweep. The results were: 1. Robbie Simpson, Scotland. 26:35; 2. Alex Hendry, Scotland. 27:15; 3. Jamie Stevenson, Scotland 27:34. Teams: 1. Scotland; 2. Eire; 3. England.

Under 18 Girls 4 miles (1315 feet)

SCOTLAND were to the fore again with Catriona Buchanan securing an emphatic victory with Becky Lambson and Rachel Jefferson of England claiming the silver and bronze medals respectively. The results were: 1. Catriona Buchanan, Scotland 30:54; 2. Becky Lambson, England 33:03; 3. Rachel Jefferson, England 34:14. Teams: 1. England; 2. Eire; 3. Scotland.

Under 16 Boys 2.7 miles (950 feet)

NORTHERN IRELAND got its first gold medal through Eoghan Totten who crossed the line first after running from the front for most of the race. He was followed home in a close battle silver and bronze by Marc Scott of England and Christy O'Brien. The results were: 1. Eoghan Totten, Northern Ireland 19:51; 2. Marc Scott, England 20:07; 3. Christy O'Brien. Eire 20:08. Teams: 1. England, 2. Scotland, 3. Eire.

Under 16 girls 2.7 miles (950 feet)

IN THE most exciting finish of the day, fast finishing Ffion Price outsprinted Mel Hyder, who had led from the start with Laura Riches taking the bronze medal. The results were: 1. Ffion Price, Wales 22:53; 2. Mel Hyder, England 22:53; 3. Laura Riches, England 23:37. Teams: 1. England; 2. Wales; 3. Scotland.
