Unearthing disability sporting talent…

With a renewed focus on Paralympic sport in the lead up to London 2012, UK Athletics is committed to finding and supporting talented athletes who will embark upon their athletic careers, following the dream of competing at the Paralympic Games.

Aviva Parallel Success is an opportunity to promote athletics and the breadth and depth of opportunities that are available under the auspices of this one sport. We are asking for your help to encourage disabled people to look at the different event groups and to try the sport. Throughout the information pack and here on the UKA Website, there will be all the information you need to support someone to get involved and give them a chance for glory.

There is advice and guidance on who is eligible for the Paralympic Pathway and how you can begin to spot a potentially talented athlete. This element of the initiative is focussing on the London Region, and is acting as a pilot before being rolled out across the UK. There will be a number of opportunities taking place in the London Region with an athletics competition in May. This event will act as the main ‘Talent Spotting’ opportunity and we are asking that you signpost athletes to this event.

All information will be regularly updated on the website where there is also a ‘contact’ form if you have any questions. We would also appreciate any feedback you have to ensure that we make Aviva Parallel Success the foundation for encouraging disabled people to get involved in athletics and start on their journey towards potential Paralympic Success.

This is an ongoing project that has been embedded into the structures of UKA so at any point that you see a potential athlete, please encourage them to contact us, or contact us yourself to get advice and guidance on how to develop their athletic career.

Through this project, we aim to find talented athletes who we can support to pursue the sport and give them a chance for glory!
