Do You Need a Racing Wheelchair?
Thanks to the generosity of London Marathon we are able to fully support 25 potential wheelchair racers to get started in the sport!
Parallel Success – London Marathon – WheelPower – BWRA
Thank you for your interest in applying for a racing wheelchair. UKA is pleased to announce that with funding from London Marathon there are 25 Racing Wheelchairs, complete with safety and racing kit, available to athletes who show commitment & potential to become successful wheelchair racers. To ensure that the racing wheelchair is of the highest standard we are working with WheelPower who are responsible for delivery of the chair. We are working in partnership with the British Wheelchair Racing Association (BWRA) throughout this project which has provided us with expertise and guidance to provide a complete package to future wheelchair racers.
We welcome applications from potential wheelchair racers over 11 years old and while there is no upper age-limit you must reach all criteria.
Before applying for a racing wheelchair, please see the criteria below. If you are able to comply with these criteria & train hard in your chosen sport we look forward to your application:
Criteria

You must become a member of an athletics club / wheelchair racing club

If aged between 11-17 you must compete in the adidas Mini London Marathon Wheelchair Race 2009 & 2010

You must become a member of BWRA & compete at their National Championships 2009 & 2010

You must compete at the Parallel Success London Competition 2009 & 2010

You must undergo an IPC Classification

You must be committed to regular training & UKA will monitor your development

You must live in the London Region
You will be contacted by a member of the Parallel Success Team to discuss your eligibility before confirming whether your application has been successful. Entry to 2009 Events will depend on when we receive the application & when you receive your Racing Wheelchair. UKA will support you in undergoing an IPC Classification. What You Need To Know

You can only apply for a Racing Wheelchair if you currently do not own one

You can only apply for one Racing Wheelchair

This project will run on a ‘first come first served’ basis but if we receive over 25 applications from athletes who fit the criteria we will signpost you to other options to obtain a racing wheelchair

If successful you will be contacted by UKA and WheelPower to organise provision of your equipment

Your application must be supported by an athletics / wheelchair racing club.
