Showcasing tomorrow’s champions…

The Grand Prix event of the school sports calendar, providing the most talented young athletes with the chance to earn a National “Vest” for the very first time.

UKA in partnership with Aviva and each of the 4 Home Country Athletics Federations have forged new partnerships between the sport and the Schools Athletics Associations that represent England, Scotland, Ulster and Wales.

Launched at the Schools International Cross Country event in March 2009, this four year programme of support ensures the strength and vibrancy of what are considered to be some of the very best events in the world for athletes of of School age.

Some of the UK's very best athletes began their story of glory by taking part in schools competition at Secondary level. Aviva's investment in 10 major schools events will bear witness to the first medal winning experiences for many more of our future champions over the next four years and by integrating this within the Avivia UKA Academy we seek to build the most complete picture of support for them and the team around them.

The Aviva School Championships is supporting the very pinnacle of School Competition in the UK.

At Secondary level these 8 domestic Championships and 2 Home Country Internationals provide some of the UK's most promising talent with a first chance to experience a higher level of competition as they aim for the very top.

In the first instance, your child's school can access this network of competition at a local level and the vast majority of schools across the UK will have local organsiers of County or District events very near them.

Cross Country events take place in the Spring Term with Track and Field events beginning in the late Spring / Early Summer.

If your child perofrms well and is selected to represent their County or District then are a step away from the National Champs. Entry standards are applied when teams are selected.

All four Home Country Schools Athletics Associations then hold their Championships and this is where Aviva's investment will highlight great talent as it strives to succeed.

Some of the UK's very best talent took part in their Schools Championships - Steve Ovett, Steve Cram, Kelly Sotherton, Mark Lewis Francis, Paula Radcliffe and many, many more. The value of these events is huge and Aviva's support invaluable in securing their future and raising the profile of athletics in schools which underpins the philosophy of the Aviva UKA Aacdemy.

Aviva UKA Academy

We recognise the invaluable support given by many teachers to the Schools Athletics competition programmes that have run successfully for so many years within each Home Nation.

This voluntary support is vital and has laid the foundation for so many athletes to make a great start to successful careers in the sport.

We also recognise that there are many new teachers coming into the system and maybe are less aware of what is in place for their pupils in terms of competition - locally, regionally and nationally.

If you would like to know more then you should first  contact the Home Country Schools Association for your nation. Click the logo below to access their website and more details about events, entry standards and how they are working with the Home Country Athletics Federations to build an even stronger future for Athletics in schools using the Aviva UKA Academy and each of its component schemes.

For Secondary School pupils:

So, you've tried Athletics.

You may well have tested yourself - running, jumping or throwing - school sports day, raced your mates in the local park, seen who can throw the football in the furthest or even tried to jump a fence on a short cut to the shops.....but..... how do you find out how good that makes you?

Compete - that's the answer.

Every school in the UKA can access schools competition which can lead all the way to the National Championships which Aviva are now sponsoring. To find out more speak to your PE Teacher.

To find out how good your performances are your school or club can use Aviva Shine Awards. If you are competing for your school and want to check peformances against kids in lcoa lcubs then you can visit www.thepowerof10.info which holds rankings for every event in every age group, for every area of the UKA.
